7 Exciting Christmas Books to Read to Your Kids this Year

Reading with my grandparents was a favorite pastime of mine. My grandpa would sit with us and read out loud. These are some of my happiest and most memorable moments! This is a particularly special year for me, because my niece is finally able to almost read with me. She just started kindergarten, so she is learning how to sound words out and write them down! I can’t wait to sit with her and be able to actually some of these books this Christmas.

There are so many Christmas books to choose from that it can understandably be overwhelming. Here are 7 books that are new, classic, and unique to choose from this holiday season.

This is almost a similar story to Frosty the Snowman, except for there is a mischievous rabbit involved. The Snowman’s Story features a newly made snowman who comes to life by a hat that lands on him. Inside this hat is a rabbit, who steals the snowman’s story that he was reading to all of the forest friends. But the snowman won’t let the rabbit ruin his story! The art is so cute and pretty. I immediately feel like I’ve been immersed into a Winter Wonderland!

I grew up with the Berenstain Bears and would love to share their stories with my niece. It would be easy to start with The Berenstain Bears and the Joy of Giving. This is a great book to read to siblings as the story focuses on Brother and Sister bear. Now we can learn together that the importance of Christmas is beyond getting presents. I’m awfully curious how that will be achieved, because even I love Christmas presents!

I absolutely adore the design throughout the Little Blue Truck’s Christmas book. The story centers around a blue truck who’s task is to deliver all the Christmas trees to his animal friends. It’s a memorable and unique story that will grip the attention of most of your little ones, including my niece. There is a steady rhythm throughout which makes it a really entertaining read!

I don’t think I know a kid who doesn’t laugh at farting. The brand new book Fritz the Farting Reindeer: A Story About a Reindeer Who Farts book is bound to create some giggling! Can Fritz make Santa’s sleigh team this year for Christmas even with his flatulence problem? We will just have to read to find out!

Watching the Muppets as a kid was something I thoroughly enjoyed! I really loved the movie A Muppet Christmas Carol, but now we can bring the story in book form. Now kids can enjoy the Charles Dickens classic with The Muppet Christmas Carol: The Illustrated Holiday Classic. I think it would be good for me to have a reminder of what Christmas spirit looks like – No one likes a Scrooge!

The story of this snowman trying to get himself warm is quite cute. There a lot of kindness, problem solving, and sharing involved with Sneezy the Snowman. The kids try to help the Snowman not be so cold and sneeze, but build him up after he melts! There is quite a bit of rhyming, but it is subtle and rolls of the tongue. The art concepts for the kids are my favorite so far. Each character full of personality and fun design!

I had to save the best for last! I am in love with How the Grinch Stole Christmas! By Dr. Seuss. I know my niece will love all the fun play on words and the perfect amount of absurdity that is Dr. Seuss. I imagine this will end up being a rabbit hole and we will have to read all of his books. But I think the Grinch is a fantastic beginning!
