Understandably, decorating a gingerbread house can be too much work during an already busy holiday season. Unless you have the time to make your own gingerbread pieces by hand, store bought options are pretty much the same. The kits tend to use the same candies (i.e. dots, red and green sprinkles, white royal frosting, etc.)
We also have all made the same old houses, gingerbread villages, ninjabread figures, gingerbread Christmas trains, campers, etc. It gets boring! That’s why we need to liven things up by including more color, different ideas, even new candies! There are so many cool out of the ordinary gingerbread house options to buy this year to keep yourself entertained before Christmas! Take a look…

If you’re looking for a wild and colorful gingerbread house, then the Trolls Gingerbread house kit is right up your alley!
The sprinkles on the Frozen II gingerbread Olaf’s Ice hut really shimmer and shine. It truly looks like snow and ice!
For people who aren’t religious, how about a gingerbread winter ice castle? You can also tell your kids this Magical Winter castle is from Frozen.
And a Chanukah Cookie House
I love the beautiful Star of David and Menorah decorations that come with the Chanukah Cookie house. Plus the yellow and blues are incredibly cheerful!
For families that love their dogs, the gingerbread dog house would be fun to craft together. I am so glad they’ve premade the dog for you, because I don’t think my hands are dexterous enough to do that! I’d love to put a Santa hat on him.
Don’t you love all the expressions on the Minions faces in this Despicable Me gingerbread house? This is clearly an exciting kit with all the colors and personalities!
I know I am going to be enjoying this Mario gingerbread castle! The coins and Mario super stars decorated throughout the castle remind me of playing the game!
There are two types of gingerbread barns:
With the Woodland Holiday gingerbread barn kit you can easily reuse all the farm animal cutouts. I think the silo with all the Christmas lights is a nice touch and an extra cookie!
I especially love being able to eat all the gingerbread cookie animals once we are done decorating and playing. The gingerbread barn kit has a lot more parts to decorate! I’d love to put festive Christmas hats on them all like the previous barn.
This giant gingerbread cookie man could visit, terrorize, or live in your gingerbread house.
I can see making the gingerbread row house being a bit of a task. Combining three gingerbread houses into one large complex would be hard to stand up! I do think decorating each house differently would be so much fun. It would emulate celebrating Christmas in the big city! There are even gingerbread stairs to complete the urban look.
Sure, a reindeer and sleigh gingerbread kit isn’t technically a “house”, but it is a fun concept! When you’re done making Rudolph, you can pretend like you’re delivering presents from gingerbread house to gingerbread house on Christmas eve! Then, of course, eat him at the end!
Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer is one of my favorite Christmas movies. Being able to make this Santa’s workshop gingerbread kit while watching Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer simultaneously would be such a treat! Plus, you can keep the Rudolph cut outs for future Christmases!
Here’s a good gingerbread house kit for the sports fanatic in your family. It would be fun to build the gingerbread stadium and actually act out the football game using Christmas cookies!
If you must make a regular old Gingerbread house, at least this is the house from A Christmas Story! This Christmas Story gingerbread house kit comes with all kinds of items from the movie, including the famous leg lamp.
Alternative for people who can’t eat gingerbread – Oreo chocolate Christmas cookie house. Honestly, an Oreo ‘gingerbread’ kit would be more tasty than the traditional gingerbread.
Not that I dislike the ordinary gingerbread house, but I want to do something different. These all are so much fun and have oodles of potential! If you could see any gingerbread “something” what would it be? I think it would be awesome to have a Japanese garden Christmas style gingerbread set up – imagine gingerbread Koi fish!
